Trait pour Trait: Barto+Barto

This traveling exhibition, which opened at the Maison de l’architecture des Pays de la Loire as part of the 2024 edition of the summer festival Le Voyage à Nantes, makes its first stop at ENSA Paris-la Villette.
Bernard and Clotilde Barto are key figures on Nantes’ architectural scene.
Trained as an artist and psycho-pathologist, their built and drawn work reflects an intimate and demanding dialogue with the city and its river.
Models, prototypes, ready-mades, drawings, collages, folds… the exhibition invites visitors to discover the work of this iconoclastic couple and their creative energy.
From the Cours des 50-Otages to the Sillon de Bretagne, this new reading of their work highlights the links and correspondences between projects that are now an integral part of everyday life in Nantes, and lesser-known projects that often remained at the sketch stage.
From the Hôtel la Pérouse to the Victor Schoelcher footbridge, via the glass porticoes on Rue Crébillon, the obsessions remain, the references are insistent and the projectual process asserts itself through repetition.
With their exclusive two-man approach, to stay as close as possible to their subject and to maintain the coherence of their projects, the Bartos have left their mark on the city.
On the occasion of its stopover in Paris, the exhibition will present never-before-seen projects designed as part of major Parisian competitions, such as the Ile Seguin footbridge and the Parc de la Villette.
Opening in the presence of architect Clotilde Barto on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 6pm.
