ENSA Paris-la Villette has made artistic and cultural education a priority.
The collaborations developed facilitate students’ internal access to artistic offerings, thanks to partnerships with local cultural institutions and operators. In addition, this EAC policy also encourages the implementation of cultural mediation processes by teachers and students, aimed at external audiences.
In this way, ENSAPLV contributes on a daily basis to being a “conduit” for architectural culture. All our projects create cross-disciplinary links that encourage the dissemination of architecture.
External project to promote architectural culture
The aim of artistic and cultural education (EAC) is to encourage all children and young people to participate in artistic and cultural life, by acquiring knowledge through direct contact with works of art, encounters with artists and cultural professionals, and artistic or cultural practice. Projects run by ENSAPLV teams aim to pass on an architectural and urban culture, to give everyone, from an early age, the keys to understanding their environment and becoming an active player in their living environment.
Under the terms of an agreement with the DSDEN of Seine-Saint-Denis, the school offers two artistic practice courses each year for primary and secondary schools. These year-long programs revolve around photography, drawing and model-making. Their formats are invented by ENSAPLV’s teaching staff, then tailored to the needs of the teaching teams at the schools involved.
ENSAPLV is listed on the pass Culture platform. In this case, à la carte group offers are available for secondary school students. These programs can be extended to include a discovery of the architectural profession.
Some courses offer practical case studies that place students in the role of mediators. The configurations are as varied as the audiences reached by these initiatives (nursery and primary school children, associations, groups of local residents, etc.).
During extracurricular activities for families, with the participation of the CAUE de Paris and the associations Construire l’architecture and AAIIA, an educational day is organized in January called “Les petits constructeurs” for children aged 7 to 10, focusing on the themes of architecture and construction.

In-house project for students
ENSAPLV is a partner of numerous cultural institutions, such as EPPGHV, Opéra de Paris, Cité de l’architecture et du patrimoine, 104, Centre national de la danse, Fonds d’art contemporain de la ville de Paris – Paris Collections, Théâtre national de la Colline, Théâtre de la Cité internationale, ART’R cultural season, Théâtre Paris Villette… Students have privileged access to programming, meet artists and benefit from artistic practice time. These courses are put together according to the opportunities and pedagogical interests of the teachers.
Long-term collaborations are also envisaged with local players, such as the teams at the Théâtre du Fil de l’eau in Pantin, the Magasins Généraux and the Théâtre de la Commune.
Students can also take part in major architecture-related events, such as the Close up – Ville, Architecture et Paysage au cinéma festival, the Quadriennale de Prague – an international scenography event organized in partnership with Artcena, or the Rencontres documentaires du Festival Périphérie…
ENSAPLV also offers artistic programming for students, during the Journées nationales de l’architecture in October, as part of various partnerships, or during the cultural highlight of the new academic year for Licence 1 students.
