Courses and degrees at ENSA de Paris-la Villette

Organization of studies according to the LMD system

As part of the European harmonization of higher education curricula, architectural studies are organized in three cycles, according to the LMD (Licence-Master-Doctorat) scheme

  • the 3-year first cycle of studies leads to the Diplôme d’études en architecture (DEEA), conferring the grade of Licence ;
  • the 2-year second cycle leads to the Diplôme d’État d’architecte (DEA), which confers a Master’s degree;
  • the 3-year third cycle leads to the national diploma of Doctor of Architecture, conferring the grade of Doctorate.

The LMD system enables students to transfer between French national schools of architecture and architecture universities abroad.

ENSA de Paris-la Villette also offers the opportunity to follow a dual curriculum leading to a double degree in architecture-engineering or engineering-architecture.

The HMONP diploma entitles the holder to be registered with the Ordre des Architectes and to use the title of architect. The one-year course is open to holders of the DEA (Diplôme d’État d’architecte) or equivalent diploma.
